Couple of quiet beers last night and early to bed, set the alarm
for 4.45 because we had a busy day planned and lots of country to see and
travel through. The sun comes up here at
about 7.20 so we had a bit of a drive in the dark before the sun snuck through
for a moment. The rest of today was
overcast but no rain.
First stop today was a look at the gorge in the Kalbarri
National Park with the Murchison River running through it near a long steep,
rocky climb down to the river. Surrounded by sandstone coloured by the forming
of the land and eroded by the thousands of years of wind and rain. The photos give an indication of the beauty
of the area. Very physically exhausting
climbs and then back half way up to do a little abseiling. Pam was all for it until we stood on the edge
and realised she would be strapped to a harness and dropped backwards over the
edge. She declined the offer and became
the official photographer. Sensational
experience enjoyed by all, even Pam!
Short drive to another area within the National Park to the
feature known as the Natures Window.
It’s a geological feature caused by the erosion of the sandstone. Great views and one or two photo
opportunities as you can see.
| Dawn while collecting supplies for lunch |
All these from the walk down to the river.
The abseiling skills - proved beyond doubt!!
This is the walk to the 'Natures Window'.
Lunch there and on the road again towards Denham which is
the most easterly town on the Australian mainland. The highway we travelled on has the second
longest straight stretch in Australia…150kms.
On the way we called into the a fairly unique phenomena at the southern
end of Shark Bay where microbial mats and stromatolites form a rock looking mat
on in the shallows. If you need more
information…..speak to Luke or ask Mr.Google!
A late visit to Shell Beach where we watched the sun go down
over a beach formed completely out of shells, very interesting and a very
calming sunset.
On to Denham at 6.30 where beer and tea was on the
menu. Another long, long day with big
days on the bus and long roads to get as far as possible as quickly as
possible. I’m sure it will be a good
sleep tonight.
Wow, how beautiful! Breathtaking scenery and go you absailers! Great photos though Pam xoxo
